Strengthening Dartmouth's campus community and deepening ties with Israeli researchers

The Dartmouth-Kalaniyot program is a faculty-led initiative focused on building a stronger Dartmouth campus community while deepening ties between Dartmouth and Israeli researchers. We work to promote excellence, with a focus on the Dartmouth mission of research, education, entrepreneurship, open collaboration, and respectful living in an international community.

Dartmouth-Kalaniyot is among the first members of a growing national Kalaniyot network of institutions of higher education—founded at MIT—whose mission is to support and strengthen academic connections with Israeli institutions of higher education. Kalaniyot has been endorsed by the Association of University Heads, Israel (VERA). Kalaniyot chapters each endorse a set of guiding principles or bylaws.

About

About Dartmouth-Kalaniyot

Dartmouth-Kalaniyot is a faculty-driven effort to advance knowledge through the contributions of scholars and students without regard to national, religious or ethnic origin. We focus on two main goals that are mutually reinforcing: building a stronger Dartmouth campus community and deepening ties with Israeli researchers.

Once funding is in place, through fellowships and seed grants, Dartmouth-Kalaniyot will bring the brightest researchers from Israel to Dartmouth as postdoctoral fellows, sabbatical visitors, and visiting students, empowering them to get involved in collaborative cutting-edge research, deepening academic ties and showcasing the brilliance of the startup nation. With its bi-national orientation, Dartmouth-Kalaniyot aligns with the many global programs that are already in Dartmouth's Global Partnership Portfolio.

Our Values

  • Respectful co-existence: Living, learning, and working together undeterred by differences of perspective and disagreements
  • Mission focus: Focusing on the university mission of research, education, and entrepreneurship
  • Excellence: Focusing on academic accomplishments and academic entrepreneurship
  • Open collaboration: International open academic collaborations with leading institutions around the world

Our Mission

Our mission is to deepen Dartmouth's ties with Israeli researchers and work with university administration to ensure an inclusive campus.

Our Vision

Dartmouth researchers cooperate to advance knowledge without regard to national, ethnic, or religious background.

Dartmouth-Kalaniyot in the Sciences (DKS) provides funding for academic programming that fosters collaborations between faculty at Dartmouth and faculty at Israeli universities. DKS supports postdoctoral fellowships, visiting scholars, and collaborative research ventures. These programs strengthen scientific partnerships and advance knowledge through international collaboration.

Partner institutions include VERA members: Hebrew University, Weizmann Institute, Technion, Tel Aviv University, University of Haifa, Open University of Israel, Ben-Gurion University, Ariel University, Israel Academy of Sciences, and Jerusalem College of Technology.

However, official Kalaniyot activities and communications must remain strictly non-political.
  6. Respect for University Policies: All activities under the Kalaniyot program must comply with the university's operational and governance structures, ensuring adherence to local rules and regulations.
